Happy Birthday to My Favorite International Peacekeeper

Posted on

Some people come into your life and change it forever — not through grand gestures, but through steady faith, quiet strength, and the way they show up day after day. That’s how it’s been with Jeremy. We’re celebrating his birthday this week and as I think about the life we’ve built together, I can’t help but reflect on all the little things that make him who he is — the kind of man I’m proud to walk beside.

Wednesday was an extra special day — hub’s birthday, and he’s 52 (though he looks so much younger).

I love that he’s a manly man — fit, strong, and handy. He can do plumbing, electrical, handyman work, and almost anything on a vehicle. These are qualities I think our young men today need to see and learn. I certainly appreciate them in my man!

He enjoys walking through open houses or any parade of homes. Always getting ideas to create 🏡. He designed our home and our beach house 🩷

His laugh is one of my favorite things about him. When it happens, it’s deep and bursting, the kind that fills a room and makes me smile from the inside out.

Thanks to his invitation, I started CrossFit back in 2011, which kicked off my own health journey. While I don’t do that anymore, it set a foundation that’s kept me active and mindful about nutrition.

After watching a Netflix documentary years ago, he decided to try being a vegetarian — and it stuck! His body responded so well that all his health markers improved. To this day, he’s still vegetarian and thriving.

He’s the kind of person who will stop and pray for anyone, anywhere, anytime.

He’s a dreamer. A BIG dreamer. Hi, I’m Becky — and I’m not a dreamer. I plan, process, and execute. But Jeremy? He dreams things larger than life, and somehow, they always feel within reach to him — never unthinkable. Love that about him.

When he worked at Newell leading international plants, he had to unite people from all over — India, Germany, France, and beyond. I’d listen to him navigate those cultural differences so easily that I started calling him the International Peacekeeper. He had a gift for helping everyone feel heard, getting things done, and letting them think it was their idea all along.

He also loves group chats — which makes me laugh every time — but I think he loves the connection they bring.

When we’re walking anywhere, I can look down and see his hand open waiting for mine.

One of the joys I’ve found in marriage is learning to truly see who he is — not to change him, but celebrating who God made him to be. It’s something I keep learning: to be a student of my husband. To pay attention to what he values, what he appreciates, what he needs — to step back sometimes and just let him be him, because that’s what allows me to be me.

We’re different in so many ways — he’s a dreamer and I’m an executor. He loves having multiple projects at once, and I like finishing one before starting another. He’s outgoing and talkative; I’m quieter and more reflective. He’s a vegetarian; I love a good steak. He’s from the north, and I’m southern through and through. And yet, it all works — beautifully. Happy birthday babe 🎂
